A New Website Aimed at Addiction Treatment Launched by the White House Administration

2017 drug overdose deaths in the US
It’s no secret that the opioid epidemic in America is reaching tragically epic proportions. 70,000 Americans died of drug overdose in 2017 and the majority of those deaths were opioid related.
Since healthcare providers began prescribing opioids, there has been opioid addiction, but today, opioids are easier to get and more affordable than ever before.
This epidemic sweeping the nation has no preference for who it affects. People of all ages, genders, race, and economic background are struggling from drug addiction and their friends and families just don’t know what to do.
The sad truth is that many who need help don’t realize it and those who do don’t know where to find it. Treatment facilities are available, but their programs aren’t always affordable or effective. That’s why the White House Administration recently launched a new website, FindTreatment.gov, to help bridge the gap between people who need help and treatment centers in their area.
User Friendly Website Design

The government’s new website is easy to use
The website looks promising, as it’s been designed to be extremely user friendly and destigmatized.
A recent news article’s report on the White House’s launch of this new website quotes Kellyanne Conway, President Trump’s counselor and the leader of the drug crisis response.
She said, “We know that the drug crisis is indiscriminate, so we want the response to be indiscriminate. We designed it with human-centered principles in mind. We used real words for real people.”
In the White House Administration’s efforts to make it an example of “American-First design”, in-house government coders were hired to build the website and make information easy to access without breaking the federal budget.
One of the best aspects of the website is that it allows those who need help to search for it based on type of treatment, payment plan, and whether the treatment is medication-assisted. They can also select from different options that focus on youth, veterans, and the LGBT community.
What the Future Holds

Drug use and crime rates have a positive correlation
According to the New York Times’ article on the government’s new website by The Associated Press, “The website builds on other efforts by the White House to address the drug crisis, including law enforcement efforts, securing billions of dollars from Congress for treatment and working with the private sector on promoting drug ‘take back’ days…
future developments include plans to more closely integrate the site with the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide more targeted resources to the community of former service members.”
The White House Administration has high hopes for this new website and wants all Americans battling substance abuse to receive the help they need. They, along with law enforcement entities, foresee a decrease in overall crime and death rates as drug addictions are effectively treated.
For anyone currently struggling with drug or alcohol addiction, not knowing where to go for treatment should never be your reason for not enrolling somewhere. We know that not everyone is ready to receive help, but we hope that just knowing about this website and that treatment is available will save countless lives.
